A. Farhadi, the director of "The Separation" that won Iran's first Oscar for best foreign film 2012 has been the subject of many celebratory posts in the Persian press. The way the news was reported in Iran by the Fars News Agency, however, has created discomfort.
In his acceptance speech, the director said, "I proudly offer this award to the people of my country, the people who respect all cultures and civilizations and despise hostility and resentment." See, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfU-w7Pmro4
However, the Fars News Agency reported him as saying, "I proudly present this [Oscar] Award to the people of my country, a people who despite all the animosity and tensions which have been created in the recent months between Iran and the West over the Iranian nuclear program still value all cultures and civilizations." The hope is that the Fars News Agency's report will not be taken as an indication of the Iranian People's "pride" in seeking a nuclear program.
